FG Lists 15 States Where Floods May Strike For 5 Days Before September Ends


The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Environment, has predicted flooding in 69 locations across 15 states in Nigeria. It warned that heavy rainfall could happen between September 24 and 28, which may lead to flooding in the specific communities.

The flood alert was issued by the National Flood Early Warning Centre of the Ministry in a statement on Wednesday, September 24. Usman Abdullahi Bokani, the director of the Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management Department of the ministry, signed the statement.

This came as part of the ministry’s regular early warning system with the intent to prevent the loss of lives and property during the rainy season peak.

Flooding has become a recurring natural disaster in the country. It displaces thousands of people every year, damaging infrastructure and putting food security under threat.
