The Red Cross Society of China, through its Embassy, has donated 1,000 family kits to the Nigerian Red Cross Society to support communities devastated by recent flooding across Nigeria.
The donation was formalized during a handover ceremony at the Nigerian Red Cross Society’s National Headquarters in Abuja on Friday, highlighting strengthened humanitarian ties between the two nations.
Mr. Zhou Hongyou, Minister of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, described the donation as a gesture of solidarity amid Nigeria’s severe flood crisis, which has caused significant loss of life and property.
“We extend our condolences to the affected families and communities,” Zhou said, emphasizing China’s commitment to humanitarian cooperation and people-centered development, in line with President Xi Jinping’s global governance initiatives.
He expressed optimism that Nigeria’s leadership would guide affected communities toward recovery.
Dr. Abubakar Kende, Secretary-General of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, praised China’s timely support, stating that the kits would aid flood victims, particularly in Niger State and other heavily impacted areas.
Kende assured transparent distribution to those most in need and invited Chinese officials to visit flood-affected communities in Makwa, Niger State, to witness the disaster’s impact firsthand.
The Nigerian Red Cross Society reaffirmed its commitment to supporting government disaster response efforts and expressed gratitude to China and its Red Cross Society for their continued partnership.
