The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has once again found itself under public scrutiny after its recruitment portal crashed just minutes before the scheduled pretest exercise, leaving thousands of applicants stranded.

Recall that the NCS recently announced a new recruitment exercise to fill vacancies across three cadres: Superintendent, Inspectorate and Customs Assistant.

According to the Service, the process is aimed at strengthening its workforce and addressing operational gaps.

Site crash frustrates applicants

However, applicants were unable to access the online pretest link as the portal returned repeated “Internal Server Error” messages.

A quick check by Legit.ng revealed that the pretest link, when clicked, shows 500 Internal Server Error.

This left many stranded and unsure of the fate of their applications.

A frustrated applicant, tweeting under the handle @MNwuba41740, wrote:

“Dear Customs, I hope this message finds you well. Could you kindly look into the accessibility of the pretest link? An ‘Internal Server Error’ keeps appearing on the screen. Thank you in advance for your swift attention to this matter.”

Nigerians express anger and disappointment

The development triggered widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians accusing the Customs Service of poor planning and waste of resources.

One user, @Vanjay__, expressed outrage, saying:

“Small Nigeria Customs pretest and the server don already collapse, only God knows how much they’ve ‘allocated’ for this magic infrastructure. Nigeria, my country, world champion in premium comedy.”

Another, @CruiseMastertv, added:
