You just got the call: you’ve been “selected”! But now HR says it’ll be two weeks until you get a formal offer. This #short reveals what that delay really means and, more importantly, if you can still back out if the job isn’t what you thought. Discover the crucial steps to take during this waiting period to protect yourself and ensure you’re making the right decision—even if you’ve already been “selected.”

.The “How Would You Do This” Interview . . . PLUS

(0:02 – 1:17)

I got a call from HR this evening and was told that I had been selected. She said it would take 14 days for receiving an offer letter. Can I be assured that I would definitely get one? I can assure you, but what do I know?

The fact of the matter is 14 days – 14 calendar days, 14 business days? I’m going to assume calendar days. What they’re saying is it’s two weeks for us to get all the paperwork signed to extend the written offer to you. I know you’ve accepted the oral offer, but you know, we’re going to take almost – we’re going to take two weeks to get an actual offer letter to you. Seriously, seriously, keep interviewing because there’s no guarantee until you have the offer letter. For some people, they’ve experienced getting the offer letter and still having the offer rescinded. So, keep interviewing. It just makes sense until such time as you have the letter.

And they say, “Are you still talking to firms?” Well, yeah, I don’t have an offer letter from you. You told me we’re making an offer, but until I have an offer letter, there’s no protection. So until I have the offer, as soon as I get the offer letter, I could – and the data is what you’ve told me – I’m prepared to say yes, sign off on it, and come to work for you. But until that time, well, frankly, I’m going to keep looking because I don’t have an offer without an offer letter that confirms. You get the idea.
