Kidnapped Katsina Family Freed After N50 Million Ransom Payment

A couple, Anas Ahmadu, 33, his wife Halimatu, and their daughter Jidda, abducted on August 26, 2025, from their home in Filin Canada estate, Katsina, were released late Thursday evening after their family reportedly paid a N50 million ransom. 

The kidnappers, who initially demanded N600 million, killed a local vigilante, Abdullahi Muhammad, 25, during the 3 a.m. attack before fleeing with the victims.

Katsina State Police Command, through spokesperson DSP Abubakar Aliyu, confirmed the incident, stating that police responded swiftly, with the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, leading an on-the-spot assessment. 

Additional personnel were deployed to rescue the victims and apprehend the culprits. The police urged the public to report suspicious activities and provide information to aid the investigation, assuring confidentiality.

Sources close to the family revealed that negotiations with the abductors led to the reduced ransom payment. Speculation suggests the kidnapping targeted Halimatu, whose father is a wealthy figure in Katsina, possibly tipped off by an informant close to the family. 

This has sparked concerns about informants fueling abductions in the state.As of this report, the Katsina Police Command has not issued a statement confirming the victims’ release.
